How to Negotiate with Top PR Firms

By Mark Macias

Every business wants the best deal, but when it comes to PR, a few common rules for negotiating don’t typically apply.

It’s important to communicate with the PR firm what exactly you are looking for from a PR campaign. Are you trying to drive new leads, or increase sales? Maybe you need credibility or are in crisis mode. All of those campaigns require a different strategy, approach, resources and budgets.

Selecting the best PR firm for your business is similar to buying a home. If you don’t give your realtor an actual budget for your new home, he or she won’t know which neighborhood to search or even what kind of home to filter. By giving the realtor a budget, he gets a better idea of what type of home you can afford – 3 bedroom 2 bath or 2 bedroom 1 bath – and will focus his search around neighborhoods that provide many of the best opportunities.

Tips for Negotiating with top PR firms

In this VLOG below, I outlined how you can become better armed when discussing your campaign with any PR firm.  Rather than focusing on budget first, it’s important to lay out what you need from a campaign. Then from there, try to find a PR firm that will work with your budget.
