The PR industry as a whole hit the $14 billion dollar mark last year, according to The Holmes Report. But let’s get to what really matters: how much does PR cost for you?
In the ideal world, you would Google this question and come back with an instant numerical answer. It’s not so straightforward in real-life.
Every public relations campaign is customized specifically to the client’s goals, so the cost will vary by campaign needs and the complexity of the campaign. The more complicated the campaign, the more resources will be required. All of that drives up price.
How Much will my PR campaign cost?
Here are some questions to help you determine how much your media campaign will likely cost. By answering these questions, you will get a better idea of how complicated or complex your media campaign will be and how many resources might be needed.
- Is this an international, national, regional or local campaign? The broader the campaign reach, the more journalists the PR team will need to pitch.
- What are your preferred media outlets for coverage? Are you trying to get a story in the New York Times or with local blogs.
- When is your anticipated media launch? Are you trying to hire a PR firm when everyone else needs publicity? The busier PR firms are with other clients, the more the cost will likely rise.
- What is the website of the product or service you want in the news? If you don’t have credibility out of the gate, it will likely require more resources to sell the story.
