Biggest Content Marketing Mistakes – PR Analysis

By Mark Macias

Here’s some quick thought-leadership advice on your content marketing campaign. I see clients and potential clients fall for this short-term fix all the time.

Don’t allow other competitors or industries to leverage your own blog and the exposure it brings. I received an email this weekend from a publicists, asking if she could write a post for our company blog. Here was her request, and why you shouldn’t fall for a similar request.

“Hey there,

My name is Elle, PR staff of a respectable company that is starting up. We want to provide information-giving, inspiring and topical articles about business and finance space; I’m well-versed in how to write without putting your readers’ to sleep : )Mind if I send the post your way for review? And you could let me know if you think it’s a good fit for your site maciaspr.com. We’re happy to write and tailor it according to your liking with unlimited revisions.

Hoping for your positive response.”

Biggest Content Marketing Mistakes

It seems obvious, but why would MACIAS PR – or any other commercial blog – want to promote another brand on its website?

Despite the obvious, MACIAS PR frequently gets requests from startups and even PR firms, asking if we would post their content on our blog. I’ve also seen clients post social media links to articles that promote their competitors, giving away their Facebook and Instagram ownership. If you want to be a leader in any industry, be the leader. Promote your thoughts and ideas, not the competition.

A successful blog will reach consumers on the first page of most search engines. That online real estate is more valuable than any ad, so own it. MACIAS PR is typically on the first page of the different search engines when researching the top tech, healthcare, nonprofits and financial PR firms. It’s a strategy that we continually apply with our clients.

Finance Monthly and ACQ5 5 – an international industry award – named Macias PR the 2017 Strategic PR Firm of the Year, and PR Firm of the Year – USA. This was the third year in a row that Finance Monthly recognized our firm. The founder – Mark Macias – is a former Executive Producer with NBC and Senior Producer with CBS in New York. He is also a PR contributor with CNBC, providing media analysis, insight and crisis advice on timely business topics.
