Case Study for Hedge Fund PR: Global Visibility Campaign

Hedge Fund PR

Industry: Hedge Fund, Emerging Markets
Markets Focused: Iraq, Asia, MENA, USA
Services Provided: Media Relations, Thought Leadership, Executive Coaching, Content Development, Digital Infrastructure

The Challenge

When Sansar Capital approached MACIAS PR, the hedge fund had no website, digital presence, or prior media coverage. As a relatively unknown fund investing in volatile markets like Iraq and broader Asia, the firm lacked the credibility needed to attract the attention of elite business journalists and sophisticated investors.

Our challenge was clear:

  • Build an online presence from scratch
  • Position the CEO as a credible voice in frontier and emerging markets
  • Secure high-impact media coverage that would resonate with institutional investors

Our Strategy & Execution

1. Digital Infrastructure Development
Before media outreach could begin, MACIAS PR helped build the online marketing foundation that would serve as a trust signal to journalists and investors. This included developing the firm’s first website, messaging framework, and digital assets that aligned with its investment philosophy.

2. Media Training for Leadership
We provided comprehensive media coaching to the CEO, equipping him with the skills and confidence to clearly articulate Sansar Capital’s value proposition, especially in high-stakes interviews. He later credited this training with improving his presentations to investors as well.

3. Research-Driven Thought Leadership
To establish thought leadership, MACIAS PR collaborated with the firm’s research team to produce a white paper analyzing the five largest private banks in Iraq. We oversaw the editorial direction, copywriting, and design—turning complex research into a compelling, media-ready narrative.

4. Strategic Media Positioning
We positioned the CEO as an expert in Middle East financial markets and emerging economies, pitching exclusive stories and insights to investor-focused media. This narrative was supported by original research and a strong digital footprint, built through our early work.

Media Results

Our campaign generated substantial visibility across top-tier business and financial media outlets. Coverage included:

  • The Financial Times
  • Bloomberg News & Bloomberg TV
  • Institutional Investor Magazine
  • Asia Hedge
  • Hedge Funds Review
  • CNN International
  • Thomson Reuters

These placements elevated Sansar Capital’s credibility in the eyes of both the financial press and institutional investors, helping position the fund as a serious player in emerging markets.

Client Impact

  • Established Global Visibility — The campaign transformed Sansar Capital from an unknown player to a recognized name in hedge fund circles.
  • Investor Confidence Boosted — Media training helped the CEO refine his narrative and improve his investor presentations.
  • Thought Leadership Cemented — The firm is now considered a credible voice on Iraq’s evolving banking and financial landscape.

Case Study for Private Equity Firm: Media, Branding & Crowdfunding Campaign

Client:

Private Equity Firm Specializing in Commercial Real Estate

Challenge:

A private equity firm approached MACIAS PR with a critical goal: raise capital for commercial real estate developments in Arizona, Long Island, and Ohio. The firm lacked a CMO or internal marketing team, and needed a trusted PR partner to craft the narrative, build credibility, and connect with accredited investors through media exposure and crowdfunding efforts.

Media Strategy:

MACIAS PR worked directly with the firm’s CEO to shape a compelling narrative that would resonate with both media and high-net-worth individuals. Our team led the entire campaign—from conceptualizing story angles and identifying strategic media targets to personally pitching reporters and managing interviews.

Given the financial nature of the campaign, credibility was paramount. We focused on positioning the CEO as an authority in commercial real estate investment, leveraging his experience and the firm’s proven track record to earn the trust of skeptical financial reporters.

Don’t Fight the News Cycle – Refocus your Media Strategy

You’ve heard, Don’t Fight the Fed. Here’s another mantra to practice in the near term: don’t fight the news cycle if you want to get media coverage.

When a story like tariffs dominates the conversation, it’s not the time to get creative. Instead, refocus your energy on identifying angles that fit into the news cycle. Reporters don’t have free reign on pitching angles during strong news cycles like this. Experienced journalists know their ideas will have more success if they pitch ideas that the public is discussing.

We’re in a Hard News Cycle

In February, I wrote a post that we were headed into a hard news cycle with the Trump administration. A few weeks later, a Washington Post reporter casually mentioned in a conversation with me that “it’s like drinking out of a fire hydrant right now.” In other words, there are so many hard news stories with this administration that reporters can’t even cover them. Newsroom resources are also more stretched during times like these, as deadlines become tighter and the news cycle changes with new information.

This approach isn’t just for businesses trying to reach a national audience. If you’re a local business, try to demonstrate or visualize how tariffs are impacting your community. It shouldn’t be difficult since trade dominates all sectors of our economy. Just be objective with your approach, preferably supporting the angle with data or internal research/surveys that support your argument.

And just for clarity – your story doesn’t have to be solely around tariffs. There are repercussions and sidebars that come out of tariffs – including immigration, unemployment, consumer spending/confidence, etc.

Throw out the Marketing Messaging Playbook

Just remember: don’t pitch an advertisement. Stay away from subjective terms when communicating with reporters; no fluff, stay focused on the hard news and it’s impact. Don’t test marketing messaging in times like this. If you pivot to this type of approach, you will better position your brand for unique moments like this. #alwaysfreshpr
